In a tiny country far away, lives a little farmer boy named Billy. Billy was the youngest one of four children, all of which helped around the farm. Everyone had different jobs. His twin sisters had the job of keeping the house clean and pretty, which includes some gardening. The oldest of them all had the job of making sure everyone was doing their job. Billy had to do everything else. Everything from feeding, to cleaning, to killing the animals. Needless to say he was a very tired boy. He barely had the time to take care of himself. Days would go by before he even thought about a shower. His laziness would show in his work. Things would be left undone or done improperly almost on a daily basis. All Billy wanted to do was play. You could always expect him to be romping around in some field.
One day when Billy skipped work to go play, he fell in a field of what seemed to be sheep manure. “I think some went in my mouth,” said little Billy. But Billy did not just eat sheep poop, he also ingested some spores of anthrax. The next day Billy fell ill. First, he had a severe attack of diarrhea along with a loss of appetite. Then poor Billy started throwing up blood. His mom knew this was not a normal symptom. Meanwhile, inside the body, a lot of commotion was going on.
Three new proteins were running lose in the cell, causing everything to go wrong. The leader of the group goes by the name of Patrick the protective antigen. He is known for the muscle because he busts through cells membranes so his friends can do more damage. Without him the others couldn’t really do what they do inside a cell. The next member of the deadly group called anthrax is Larry the lethal factor. Larry is known for disrupting the way the cell works. He likes to change the way the cells want to operate. Eddie the edema factor is the most dangerous of them all. He causes swelling and releases a toxin that could be deadly on its own. Combined, this group called anthrax can invade any cell with little resistance.
Worried about his health, Billy’s mom took him to the hospital. She was worried there was little she can do for her sick son. At the doctor’s office, Billy received a new type of treatment. It consisted of a vaccine and an experimental new protein designed to kill the anthrax bacteria. Mean while. Inside the cell, a new sheriff was in town. His name was lysine PlyPH, but people called him ply for short. Ply, like anthrax is a bacterium, but ply has special powers that can kill the bacteria group called anthrax. Along with victor the vaccine, ply started working on fixing what anthrax has already damaged.
Billy showed little signs of improvement. The doctor said that it would take a while for the vaccines to do its job, but it might have been too late. Billy’s mother became more and more worried. Back inside the cell, word of the new sheriffs reached the anthrax. Every member was furious. They decided to find the sheriff and get rid of them. News of their plans reaches the sheriff. Ply decides to arrange an epic battle; the loser has to leave forever.
At the crack of dawn the two groups met in the small intestine. Crowds of cells gathered around to survey this battle. Both groups stood face to face showing no mercy. Suddenly Larry and Eddie attacked victor. Victor defeated Larry with some ease. The battle with Eddie lasted much longer. They went back and forth exchanging blows, destroying cells that got in the line of fire. Through both intestines, down to the colon they battled. Both victor and Eddie were fatigued. All the commotion in the bowls caused Billy to lose all control of his excrement’s. Both Eddie and Victor were expelled from the body as a result of the movement.
Meanwhile back in the small intestine, Patrick and ply are still staring each other down. Just then, Patrick divided into six identical forms of himself. Ply was surrounded. He needed a plan and he needed it quick. He began to fight the Patrick’s trying to fight them one on one. The Patrick’s were giving ply a worldly beating. Out of no where a group of antibodies decided to lend a hand. The antibodies helped defeat half of the Patrick’s and ply defeated another two. That final Patrick refused to give up. He started running away, bursting through cells like never before. Ply went after him. This went on until they reached the throat.
In the throat, Patrick seemed like he wanted to give up. He showed signed of surrender. When ply came closer to him, he tricked ply and stabbed him. Before ply died he bit into Patrick and then tickled Billy's throat, and with his remaining energy, held on to Patrick as young Billy coughed out both him and Patrick. A few days later Billy was feeling much better. The doctor said that he would make a wonderful recovery. His mother was pleased. When Billy got home he swore he would never leave work to play ever again. Billy never had anthrax again.
